I do not usually do non electric showers often but this one is a friends grandmas so thought id have a look and see what i can do for them.
it just a standard mixer valve i think , when you turn the knob its very stiff and feels like metal on metal grinding so probably needs complete replacement now if you catch them early you can service them but metal on metal rubbing will cause damage internally.
easy to remove just turn of supply , in the is one the service valve are really close to nit so easy turn iso valves to off position and then undo the 2 compression nuts holding the shower in place.
Bristan Mixer Valve Failure Signs
| Symptom | Probable Cause | Fix |
| Only Cold/Hot Water | Seized Thermostatic Piston | Descale or Replace Cartridge |
| Dripping from Head | Ceramic Disc Valve failure | Replace On/Off CD Valve |
| Fluctuating Temp | Blocked Inlet Filters | Clean filters behind the wall nuts |
The "Grub Screw" Trap: On Bristan Prism models, the handle is often held by a tiny grub screw hidden under the "H/C" indice. If you don't use the correct 2.5mm Allen key, you will round it out and have to drill it.
The 30mm Nut: Unlike Tritons, many Bristan cartridges require a large 30mm deep socket or a thin-walled spanner to remove the retaining nut.
Calibration: After replacing a cartridge, you must Recalibrate. Turn the shower on, measure the temp with a thermometer, and adjust the spindle until it hits at the 38C "stop" position.
0:00 – Water Isolation: Why isolating the mains is critical (mixers don't have pull-cords!).
1:45 – Indice & Handle Removal: Finding the hidden grub screw.
3:30 – Removing the Temperature Stop Ring: Marking the position to ensure 38C safety.
5:15 – Cartridge Extraction: Using the 30mm spanner to unscrew the valve.
7:00 – Descaling Technique: Using a 50/50 white vinegar soak for 4 hours.
9:20 – Reassembly & O-ring Lubrication: Using WRAS-approved silicone grease.
